What exactly is EA SPORTS Online?
EASO is a service, accessable by trial subscription, that offers features and matching capabilities that greatly improve the online experience PC players have enjoyed for years. The service will include several features: - EASO will allow you to customize your online persona
- EASO will display a player?s status and skill level
- EASO will offer collectible digital items
- EASO will host clubs, tournaments, buddy lists and other community features
- EASO will have easy-to-use matchmaking and more
When will it be available?
EA SPORTS Online will be available for some of our EA SPORTS PC products this year. Isn?t this the same matching service that PlayStation 2 players are getting for free?
Not at all. EASO is a PC only offering ? a unique set of features, collectibles and matching capabilities that are not available on any other platform. Only PC players will be able to create an online persona, collect digital objects, build online teams, join clubs, play in tournaments, use buddy lists and enjoy other expanded features.
Will there be a charge?
EA SPORTS Online is a paid subscription service, but players get several opportunities to make use of the service for free.
How much will it cost?
If you want to participate in the trial program, you can participate in the service for 2 ? 6 months before you pay anything. However, the core subscription is currently valued at $5.99 per month. (We reserve the right to change the subscription rate, but we?ll give reasonable notice to the community before we do.)
How do I make use of the extended free trial period?
There are several ways to use the service for an extended free trial period:
- 60 days free with initial purchase of an EA SPORTS game (only applicable to certain EA SPORTS titles)
- 60 more free days for registering a second EA SPORTS game (only applicable to certain EA SPORTS titles)
- Other ways of accruing free trial days will be offered as well
When will I start getting charged?
If you really want to be charged, you can start paying a monthly subscription fee right after the 60 free days you get for buying the software. :o) Assuming you?d prefer to play for free, you can participate in the trial program and get up to 120 more free days (four months) if you register another EA SPORTS game and answer a couple of on-line questionnaires. Will there be downloads?
Yes. We will be updating and improving the online service over time, based on its popularity and use.
Will broadband users have an advantage in competition with modem users?
Players will be able to easily identify the connection speeds of others in the online community. That way, you?ll be able to play only against those you feel comfortable with. As with any online service, broadband will improve your overall experience by improving connection times and reducing occasional delays ? but you won?t need it to play, compete or have fun.
Can I still match up online the old way?
Most of our products will continue to provide direct IP connection capabilities, as well as LAN play. However EASO is the only way to find another player online in participating EA SPORTS PC games.
How long will the EA SPORTS Online Service be offered?
We hope the service will be successful for a long time. However, we reserve the right to discontinue the service after 90 days notice to the community, or, for each particular participating EA SPORTS PC product, 30 days after the end of the applicable sport season.
